Welcome back to The Women Behind the Words! Today, we are blessed to have Naomi Fata return to share her journey and the incredible story of mentorship and discipleship that deeply transformed her life. Naomi takes us back to her early years when she desperately longed for a father figure after losing her father to cancer at the age of seven. She prayed for years, believing that her mother might remarry and she would have a new dad, but that was not to be. Instead, in an unlikely setting—a gas station convenience store—God brought someone else into her life.

Naomi shares the beautiful story of how an older man named Walt stepped into her life, becoming a mentor, spiritual father, and friend. This unique and non-traditional relationship spanned many years, with Walt continually investing in Naomi’s spiritual growth. He not only provided wisdom and guidance on her spiritual journey but also played a key role in her personal life, including advising her on whom to date and eventually marry. Naomi’s story reflects the profound impact that intentional discipleship and godly mentorship can have on one’s life, especially in terms of experiencing God’s love in the small, everyday moments.

Walt’s gentle, fatherly influence helped Naomi see the importance of being available, aware of others' needs, and investing in the small things—reminding her that true ministry often happens in everyday life. Through this mentorship, Naomi grew in her understanding of Christ’s love, healing from past wounds, and learning what it means to walk with Jesus in daily life.

 

About the Guest:

Naomi Fata is an author, professional sewist, and homeschool mom of three. She writes God’s Corner for her local newspaper and has a passion for inspiring others to use their God-given gifts in their circles of influence. Naomi’s first book, Beyond Head Knowledge: Knowing Christ Who Satisfies Our Hearts, dives into the depth of truly knowing Christ beyond intellectual belief. In addition to being an author, Naomi has also created two sewing-themed journals.

Naomi’s next project is her upcoming 13-week devotional, Stitching Your Story Piece by Peace, which will be released in February 2025. This devotional focuses on pursuing the peace of God in all areas of life while weaving in sewing themes that reflect Naomi’s creative background.

Beyond her work as an author, Naomi enjoys the role of a homeschool mom, sewing, and encouraging others through her ministry.
